Brennand’s Endowed CE Primary School Slaidburn

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

The main objective of the Governing Body is to provide strategic leadership to the school with the aim of ensuring that the children have the best possible and most rounded education that can be provided within our community.

The governors' primary roles can be summarised as follows:

  • Providing overall guidance on the direction and character of the school.
  • Ensuring that the school fulfils its legal obligations.
  • Holding the school to account for the quality, standard and effectiveness of the teaching and learning that it provides.
  • Ensuring that there are adequate plans and that targets and objectives have been achieved.

As our school is a Church of England Voluntary Aided school, the governors have wider responsibilities than schools that are not Voluntary Aided. This includes additional roles in relation to the buildings and grounds, budget, staffing and admissions.

As we are an Endowed school with a Trust Deed we have two sets of Governors unlike most other schools. The Trust Governors are called Foundation Governors and not to be confused with the Governors called Foundation on the main governing body.
