Miss Booth teaches us every day and we are joined by Yr 3/4 on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and Fridays.

Every morning, we have assembly*, handwriting, spelling, English, maths and guided reading.

*Assembly on Fridays in our Celebration Worship where everyone is welcome to join and share the children's achievements and will alternate between morning and afternoon dependent on when Mrs Taylor is in school.

Each afternoon, we have wider curriculum topics (science, RE, history/geography, PE, PSHE, music, art/DT, Spanish, computing and Forest School)  

NB: music and art/DT will be joint with Yr3/4.

We have a busy year ahead planned with topics in our first half term consisting of the Alps, Forces, Survival adventure stories, biographies, Micro:bit programming and Viking songs amongst others. We also have various exciting trips and events planned to enrich our curriculum, build teamwork skills and encourage an appreciation of others. These include the Westmorland County Show, a Tag Rugby Festival at Settle, the Macmillan Coffee Morning and our Harvest Festival.

PE: Children will have 2 sessions of PE each week on a Monday and Friday afternoon. This year, PE across school is being led and delivered by Progressive Sports (Coach Tom). Children must have their PE Kit in school on this day. A reminder that this must consist of navy shorts, a plain white t-shirt and trainers or black pumps. During the winter, if children would like to bring navy joggers, this is also suitable. 

Forest School: We are very lucky to have a wonderful Forest School led by Mrs Murray. Forest School for us this year will take place on Friday afternoons. On this day, children can come in their own suitable outdoor clothes. 

Friday is also one of our PE days, so even though children are in their 'own' clothes for Forest School, they must ensure their PE kit is in school as well as they will be expected to get changed. 

Reading: Children should be reading regularly (ideally every day) at home. We will aim to ensure children are heard read weekly at school as well and we have opportunity for independent reading every day. We will continue to operate our weekly 'Reading Stars' scheme where by each time a child's reading record is signed, earns them a ticket into our class prize draw at the end of the week. We visit the school library every Wednesday to change reading books, although children may read books from home or our class at any time as well. 

Water Bottles: Children should bring a water bottle to school every day. A reminder that this should contain water only and not juice. There is opportunity to fill up bottles in class. Water bottles should go home and be cleaned every night before being returned the next day. 

Spellings: We teach spelling each day and have a focus theme each week. Spellings to be learnt at home are given out on a Tuesday for the test the following Monday. Please do try and help your child at home to practice these in preparation. 

Homework: For Year 5, this begins after October half-term and will consist of a mix of Grammar and Maths tasks each week depending on the current class focus. Homework is used as an opportunity to apply knowledge from class learning independently, however if children are unsure, they should ask in class and we will certainly help explain further. Homework for Year 6 is used as an opportunity to build towards the SATs tests which will take place in May. They will have 3x 10minute practice tests each week on Reading, Maths and SpaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar). We ask that children independently have a go at home (in the 10minute time frame) and then we will mark together in school and go through anything that children may have been unsure on, as a form of revision. 

All homework for both year groups will be set on a Tuesday to be completed and returned for the following Tuesday. 

Church links: We will continue to have our weekly Church worships on Tuesday morning led by Rev'd Karen at St Andrew's. We are very lucky to have our wonderful Church right next door to our school and so will be making the most of this and visiting for the Harvest Festival and inviting Rev'd Karen into school to help with our RE topics which this first half term is about the Bible and Holy Books. Rev'd Karen has also been very busy devising a special new Sunday Service called 'Alltogether Worship' where on the 4^th Sunday of each month children from different classes in school will have a part to play in the village Sunday service. More information will follow as Year 5/6 will be involved in the very first worship of this form on Sunday 27^th September.
