Statement of Intent

At Brennand's Endowed, we want to provide children with a Mastery Mathematics curriculum that challenges every child. We want children to understand the importance of mathematics and how this has helped to solve many of history’s fascinating problems.  We want children to understand the importance of mathematics in everyday life.

Mathematics at Brennand's will ensure that children understand how critical mathematics is to the development of our world and future including technology, science and engineering along with financial literacy and their future careers and lives. Ensuring that a high-quality education in mathematics is provided for our children, will ensure a foundation for understanding how wonderful it is and how it impacts everything around us. Children will be encouraged and supported in being aware of mathematics in the world, in reasoning mathematically along with appreciated the beauty and power of mathematics. This will establish a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.

Mathematical Aims at Brennand's Endowed

  • become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, through an assortment of and regular practice of increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
  • reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language.
  • to be able to solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
