FOSS (Friends of Slaidburn School)

The Friends of Slaidburn School (FOSS), support the school to enable the children to have excellent extra-curricular opportunities and focus on projects, which will make a difference to the children’s outcomes.

This is achieved by our fundraising activities which enable us to provide much-needed funds for a range of resources and activities. Due to Brennand's being a small school, there are increased costs for transport for trips. FOSS work hard to reduce the cost of the transport to overcome this barrier and avoid the additional cost being passed on to parents. The money raised from our fundraising events also enables us to buy new equipment, learning resources and ensure all of the children receive a present from Father Christmas when he visits. More information and photos are available on the Brennands Endowed Fundraising page on Facebook. It would be great if you could like and follow our page, so we can keep you up-to-date.

To ensure we are able to continue providing this support, we need your help. You can help us in a range of ways. This can be attending events, buying tickets, providing raffle prizes and joining the committee. Your role in the committee can be adapted to suit your availability and is probably not as much of a commitment as you imagine. This typically involves 4 meetings a year, which are held in the evening (face-to-face or Teams) and providing support at events. This usually entails selling tickets at the school shows, helping out at discos and on the day of our Dunsop Teas event. If you would like to join us or want more information, please feel free to have a chat with Emma Simpson (Chair) or Liz Hargreaves (Vice Chair).

Our fundraising events have included:

  • Beetle Drive
  • 100 Club
  • school discos
  • Trough Teas
  • sponsored walks
  • book donation scheme
  • 'Easy Fundraising' website that parents can use to access when purchasing online
  • We are always welcoming new ideas - so let us know if you can think of anything else we can do!

Joining the Friends

Everyone is welcome to be a Friend of Slaidburn School.  All Slaidburn School parents and staff are automatically members of FOSS and the school is very grateful for the time, effort and money that are given by both parents and teachers who take part in a wide range of fundraising events throughout the year.

The committee meets regularly (about once per half-term) and everyone is welcome to come along to the meetings and discuss new ideas and the organisation of forthcoming events.

This year the Friends' chair is Emma Simpson.

We have a vacancy for a treasurer.

We don't have an official secretary at the moment and take it in turns to produce the minutes for each meeting. We can be found at the school gates most mornings and afternoons and are standing by to take your offers of help in person or by email:

If you can't come to a meeting, but are able to help at an event, please let a member of the committee know so that we can keep you up to date with what is happening and find out from you how you might be able to help.

OUR NEXT MEETING IS ON 5TH JUNE 2025 AT 7.30PM IN SCHOOL.

What’s Going On

We will keep parents up to date with the progress of fundraising throughout the year, including events coming up, fundraising totals and recent spending.
